During the annual Honors Day program April 14, UGA recognized outstanding classroom teachers from each school and college and the Honors Program. In addition, several colleges and schools have named award winners in various areas.
The Lothar Tresp Outstanding Honors Professors are Christopher M. Cornwell, economics; Katarzyna Jerzak, comparative literature; Nancy M. Kason, Romance languages; Jere W. Morehead, legal studies; and John H. Morrow Jr., history. The Hatten Howard Honors Teaching Award went to Charlotte Rich, English. Sally Randall is the outstanding instructor in the Academic Assistance Program.

Franklin College of Arts and Sciences--Honors Day: Richard A. LaFleur, classics (named Franklin Professor earlier this year).
Also recognized at Honors Day were the recipients of the colleges Sandy Beaver Awards. The Beaver Awards for Excellence in Teaching (cash award of $2,800) went to Christine A. Franklin, statistics; Maurice D. Hendon, mathematics; John A. Maltese, political science; Richard Neupert, drama; and Anthony Shuttleworth, English. Sandy Beaver Teaching Professorships ($7,850 a year for three years) were awarded to Noel Fallows, Romance languages; William Finlay, sociology; and Thomas Peterson, Romance languages. Alexandra Brewis (anthropology) and Kecia Thomas (psychology and African-American studies) received the M.G. Michael Award ($2,500 each). Outstanding adviser awards went to Eugene Miller (upper division) and Wanda Wilcox (lower division).
