Academic regalia
Faculty may rent academic regalia at the University Bookstore for the Fall Convocation scheduled for Aug. 22. Orders should be placed by July 15; orders placed after that date will incur an additional $10 fee, and orders requiring express mail delivery will incur further charges. Rental orders can be picked up at the bookstore beginning Aug. 16. A fee of $10 will also be charged for orders that are not picked up. Rental fees are: cap only $7.50; gown only $10 (masters), $11.50 (doctors); cap and gown $12 (masters), $13.75 (doctors); hood $12 (masters), $13.75 (doctors).
Legion Pool
Legion Pool is now open daily. Hours are 1-6:30 p.m. Mondays, 11:30 a.m.-9 p.m. Wednesdays, and 11:30 a.m.-6:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays through Sundays.
Fees are $2 for faculty-staff members, $1.50 for children, $3 for guests and $1 for UGA students. A variety of discount passes are also available at the pool.
An open house for students, faculty, staff and their guests is planned for May 22, with free admission, games, door prizes and refreshments.
Legion Pool features dressing facilities with showers and hair dryers, a picnic pavilion, concessions, lap swimming, volleyball and deck chairs. The facilities are available for private parties after hours and for birthday parties during normal hours.

Torrance Center
The Torrance Center for Creative Studies will offer several Challenge programs for young people this summer.
Two sessions of Summer Discoveries, for pre-K through eighth-grade students, will be held at the Torrance Center in Aderhold Hall in June. There will also be two Challenge by the Sea excursions for fourth through 10th graders in July.
Summer Discoveries I (June 21-25) and II (June 28-July 2) will offer a wide variety of interesting classes. Students may enroll for morning sessions (8:30 a.m.-noon), afternoon sessions (12:30-4 p.m.) or the all-day camp (8:30 a.m.-4 p.m.). The programs are designed to help children explore and develop their creative potential through activities appropriate to each age.
Tuition for Summer Discoveries is $90 for one week/half day, $160 for one week/full day and $290 for two weeks/full day. Tuition fees for a second child are $85, $150 and $275. Applications and fees are due by May 19.
Challenge by the Sea is a residential program in which students complete a unit of study in marine science through a variety of laboratory and field experiences. Students currently in fourth through seventh grades may sign up for the Skidaway Island Challenge by the Sea, to be held July 18-23. The program, which costs $425 including transportation, housing and meals, will include study of crabs and fish, laboratory investigations of marine life collected from the docks, a trip to Tybee Island to study the dunes and a day studying the history of Savannah.
Students currently in seventh through 10th grades may sign up for the Myrtle Beach, S.C., Challenge by the Sea to be held July 11-16. The program, which costs $465 including transportation, housing and meals, will feature investigations of sea life, beach profiling, low-country stories and folklore and a study of sea turtles.

Staff conference
