Jackson Street construction project creates temporary one-way street

By Tom Jackson

Ongoing improvements to Jackson Street through campus have caused it to be temporarily one-way. Bob Wallace, design engineer with the Office of University Architects, says the street will be one-way southbound from Fulton Street to Baldwin Street for three or four weeks.
The $845,000 renovation project is virtually rebuilding the street--making sidewalk and drainage improvements, adding a left-turn lane for the new North Campus parking deck and providing underground utilities and handicapped access to the administration building. Traffic will move one way through the project area while a section of the roadway is removed and rebuilt, Wallace says.
To avoid delays and reduce traffic congestion, motorists are urged to avoid that portion of Jackson Street to the extent possible during this work.
