| Technology grants Grants of up to $75,000 to enhance teaching and learning at UGA through the use of media and information technology are provided through the Learning Technologies Grants Program administered by the Instructional Technology Advisory Committee. Grants will support innovative explorations as well as implementation of proven applications. Deadline for submission of proposals is Sept. 15. Guidelines are available from the Office of Instructional Support and Development, by phone (542-1355) or on the Web (http://www.isd.uga.edu/). Analysis seminars The UGA Research Computing Resource now supports use of the SeqLab graphical interface for analysis and manipulation of gene and protein sequences. A series of seminars has been scheduled for July 20, 21, 27 and 28 to provide a hands-on introduction to SeqLabs key features and capabilities. Employee orientation With the near-completion of renovations at the Staff Training and Development Center, employee orientation sessions are once again being held in the center on Thomas Street. Sessions for faculty and staff entitled to benefits are held Mondays, 9 a.m.-12:30 p.m.; sessions for student, temporary and other employees not entitled to benefits are held Mondays, 3-4 p.m. For additional information, call 542-7062 (or e-mail training@arches.uga.edu). Intramural sports The recreational sports department is offering several intramural sports programs for faculty and staff this summer. Softball: Season begins June 28. Each team plays one game per week for four weeks; teams that do not forfeit advance to a single-elimination tournament. Fee: $60 per team. 3-on-3 Basketball: Season begins June 28. Each team plays one game per week for four weeks; teams that do not forfeit advance to a single-elimination tournament. Fee: $30 per team. Racquetball Tournament: July 16-18; entry deadline is 1 p.m., July 14. Fee: $10 per player. 2-on-2 Co-Rec Basketball Tournament: Play begins July 26; entry deadline is 1 p.m. July 21. Fee: $10 per team. First aid courses The East Georgia chapter of the American Red Cross is offering numerous first aid courses , including standard first aid classes (adult CPR and first aid, $35) and community first aid and safety courses (infant, child and adult CPR and first aid, $40).
