Director of internal auditing closes the books on 26-year career at UGA
By Larry B. Dendy

Kenneth G. Reece, director of internal auditing at UGA for 26 years, will be retiring this year.
Reece joined UGA as an auditor in 1968, and became director of internal auditing in 1973. He was an auditor with the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta for three years before joining the
university.
Reece heads a staff of 10 audit and support professionals and reports directly to UGA’s president. His office conducts regular audits of university organizations and functions, and oversees control assessments in academic and support units.
Internal auditing provides training to promote internal control and compliance with university fiscal policies. The office also helps coordinate the work of auditors from agencies outside the university, including the University System Board of Regents and the state and federal governments.
“Throughout his 26 years as director of internal auditing, Ken Reece has provided an extraordinary degree of integrity for university fiscal programs,” says President Michael F. Adams. “I am personally appreciative of his professionalism and dedication.”
Reece will retire by the end of August. A national search will be conducted for his successor.
Reece holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Jacksonville State University and a master’s degree in economics from UGA.
He has earned the designation of Certified Internal Auditor and is a member of the Association of College and University Auditors and the Atlanta chapter of the Institute of Internal Auditors.
