Temporary housing for international students
The International Student Life Office is seeking faculty and staff to host new international students prior to the beginning of classes in the fall. Approximately 200 new international students will arrive for the coming academic year, and many will need temporary housing for one to three nights before they secure permanent housing. If you are interested in hosting a new student for a temporary stay, please contact the ISL Office at 542-5867 (or e-mail schang@arches.uga.edu).

Libraries reserve materials
The deadline to submit materials to be placed on reserve at the main and science libraries for fall semester is Aug. 2. Materials submitted by this date will be ready for class use by Aug. 23. Materials received after Aug. 2 will be processed as quickly as possible. Reserve lists may be submitted electronically from the libraries’ home page (www.libs.uga.edu/maincirc/resform.html). For further information, call 542-3256.

Open records
Revisions to the Georgia open records law effective this July 1 require the university to produce requested records within three days; failure to comply can subject the employee who receives such a request to a misdemeanor charge and a $100 fine. Requests for records should be faxed immediately to the university’s open records compliance officer, Bob Taylor, at 542-9492. Call 542-8090 if you have questions about the law.

International coffee hour co-hosts needed
UGA departments are invited to co-host or sponsor one of the international coffee hours organized by the International Student Life Office. Coffee hours take place each Friday during the school year, giving students the opportunity to meet with those from other countries. For information about hosting or sponsoring a coffee hour, call the ISL office at 542-5867.

UGACard now a debit card for campus services
The UGACard can now be used to pay for event tickets at the Tate Student Center cashier’s window, Tate Center movie tickets, and playing costs in the Tate Center gameroom. At the beginning of fall semester, the Tate Center copy center will accept the card to pay for copy services and all UCNS computer labs and the libraries will accept payment via UGACard for all computer print jobs. Value (up to $25, in cash only) can be added to the UGACard at stations in the main and science libraries, the Memorial Hall and Aderhold Hall computer labs, and the Tate Center cashier’s window. For information, call 542-8549; to report a lost or stolen card, call 542-8074.

Employment Office hours, policy change
The Employment Office in the human resources building is now open before and after regular working hours, from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. weekdays.
In addition, the Human Resources Division has instituted a “Present Employee Priority” procedure for classified job vacancies. At the discretion of the employing unit, vacancies may be listed as PEP positions; such positions will be open only to current regular UGA employees for five days. This process will be useful to departments filling a position which requires knowledge of university procedures, policies and operations.
