| Law school poll supports diversity Learning alongside students of different racial and ethnic backgrounds significantly enhanced the educational experiences of law students, according to a recent survey released by the Civil Rights Project at Harvard University. The report, Diversity and Legal Education: Student Experiences in Leading Law Schools, reviews the impact of diversity on the educational experiences of 1,820 law students enrolled at Harvard University and the University of Michigan. Minority students to join in Michigan affirmative-action case A federal appeals court has cleared the way for minority students to take a role in defending the University of Michigans diversity efforts in admissions. Black and Hispanic students plan to offer arguments--disputed by the university itself--that the university needs affirmative-action policies to remedy its own racial discrimination. They argued that current and future minority students cannot depend on the universitys lawyers to represent their interests in the court case because of the schools own discriminatory practices and habits. The court agreed, finding the students argument persuasive. |
