Coming this Year
Season tickets are still available for the many performances that will take place on campus this year. Watch Columns for details about individual events and series not yet announced; here are some of the performances already scheduled.

Forte
University Union has scheduled six performances for the Forte performing arts series:
• Bio Ritmo, traditional and original salsa music. Sept. 8. Georgia Hall, Tate Student Center. $12 ($8 students).
• Ririe-Woodbury Dance Company. Oct. 6. Fine Arts Theatre. $15-$18 ($6-$8 students).
• Nanci Griffith. Oct. 27. Hodgson Hall, Performing Arts Center. $20-$22 ($10-$12 students).
• Bobby McFerrin. Jan. 24. Hodgson Hall, Performing Arts Center. $16-$18 ($8-$10 students).
• Alvin Ailey Repertory Ensemble. March 1. Classic Center Theater. $16-$20 ($8-$12 students).
• Philip Glass. April 18. Hodgson Hall, Performing Arts Center. $20-$22 ($10-$12 students).

University Theatre
Most people know Steve Martin as a seasoned comedian and actor, but the versatile Martin is also a playwright, and his play Picasso at the Lapin Agile will kick off the 1999-2000 season of University Theatre.
The full schedule combines well-known plays (the “Millen-nium Season”) with a new series of innovative second-stage productions (the “Off-Broad Street Series”). A wide range of cultures and time periods are represented.
Season tickets are $63 ($52 for students and seniors). For a ticket form listing all the options, call 542-4235. Tickets for individual performances can be purchased at the box office in the lobby of the Fine Arts Building, beginning one week prior to opening night for each show. Box office hours are noon-5 p.m. weekdays and one hour before show time. During those hours, the box office phone number is 542-2838.

Millennium Season productions are:
• Picasso at the Lapin Agile by Steve Martin, directed by Carolyn Blackinton. Seney-Stovall Chapel. Oct. 6-9 and 13-16 at 8 p.m., Oct. 10 at 2:30 p.m. $12 ($10 students).
• The Caucasian Chalk Circle by Bertolt Brecht, translated by Eric Bentley and Maja Apelman, directed by Ray Paolino. Fine Arts Theatre. Nov. 17-20 and Dec. 1-4 at 8 p.m., Nov. 21 at 2:30 p.m. $12 ($10 students).
• Georgia Repertory Theatre: Salvage by William Goulet, directed by Stanley Longman. Seney-Stovall Chapel. Feb. 16-19 and 23-26 at 8 p.m., Feb. 20 at 2:30 p.m. $15 ($12 students).
• The Tempest by William Shakespeare, directed by David Z. Saltz.
Fine Arts Theatre. April 12-15 and 19-22 at 8 p.m., April 16 at 2:30 p.m. $12 ($10 students).

The Off-Broad Street season includes:
• Moby-Dick--Rehearsed by Orson Welles, directed by Mark Monday. Cellar Theatre. Sept. 15-18 at 8 p.m., Sept. 19 at 2:30 p.m. $10 ($8 students).
• Scapin by Molière, adapted by Bill Irwin, directed by Allison Cameron. Cellar Theatre. Oct. 27-30 at 8 p.m., Oct. 31 at 2:30 p.m. $10 ($8 students).
• Before the Fire by Catherine Trieschmann. Cellar Theatre. Feb. 2-5 at 8 p.m., Feb. 6 at 2:30 p.m. $10 ($8 students).
• The Abduction of Sita, directed by I Nyoman Sedana. Cellar Theatre. March 22-25 at 8 p.m., March 26 at 2:30 p.m. $10 ($8 students).


Performing Arts Center
Seven series are offered this year. All performances take place in one of the auditoriums in the Performing Arts Center except the dance concerts, which take place in the Fine Arts Theater. Season ticket prices are:
• Music Series I (5 concerts). $110-$127.
• Music Series II (5 concerts). $110-$127.
(Music I and II: $216-$249.)
• Showtime (4 concerts). $48-$60.
• Traditions (4 performances). $65.
• Dance Festival (3 performances). $55-$60.
• Ramsey Concert Hall Series (4 recitals). $52.
• Franklin College Chamber Music Series (6 concerts). Free.

Season tickets are available at the box office in the Performing Arts Center (542-4400). Students can purchase a $29 student pass good for four admissions during the season. Tickets for individual performances go on sale Aug. 23 (half-price for students).
Highlights of the season include two concerts by the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra (Sept. 19, with Yoel Levi conducting Mahler’s fifth symphony, and March 19, with André Raphel Smith conducting Copland’s Rodeo Suite and Dvorák’s Symphony No. 8 and Brice Andrus performing Richard Strauss’s Horn Concerto No. 2).
The King’s Singers will be back on April 2 and the renowned Academy of St. Martin in the Fields will appear Feb. 26. The San Francisco Western Opera Theater returns with a concert performance of Mozart’s Don Giovanni on Nov. 7, and the Hungarian Philharmonic comes to campus Feb. 19.
Among the other offerings are jazz, pop, ragtime, Celtic music, Vietnamese music, a lutist, several guitarists and a mandolin player. The Dance Festival includes a return of the Atlanta Ballet, a concert by Amy Horowitz and a performance by the Cleveland Ballet’s Dancing Wheels.
