Administrative Changes
Georgia Applicant Clearinghouse
Effective July 1, Ed Wilker became associate director of the University System of Georgia Applicant Clearinghouse, and Sheila Crumley England became system coordinator.
These appointments follow the retirement of Elizabeth Randolph, who served as system coordinator from the clearinghouse’s establishment in 1975 until her retirement this past April.

Arts and Sciences
New department heads in the Franklin College of Arts and Sciences, effective July 1, are: Joe Crim, cellular biology; Dorothy Figueira, comparative literature; Max Reinhart, Germanic and Slavic languages; Bob Burton, philosophy; Garnett Stokes, psychology; Sandy Martin, religion; and Noel Fallows, Romance languages.
In addition, Vernon Meentemeyer was named interim head of the geography department on March 17, and Bill McCormick was named acting head of the statistics department Aug. 10, 1998.

University Communications
Chuck Toney, who for the past four years has been a public information director for Clemson University’s news service, joined University Communications Sept. 13.
He is primarily responsible for providing writing support for the president and senior administration.
Before joining the Clemson staff, Toney was press secretary for U.S. Congressman Don Johnson, and previously was reporter and editor for the several northeast Georgia newspapers operated by Community Newspapers, Inc., of Athens. Toney earned his bachelor’s degree in 1985 from Presbyterian College and a master’s degree in English from Clemson in 1990.

Women’s basketball
Katie Schutz, an assistant women’s basketball coach at Emory University for the past two years, has joined the UGA women’s basketball staff. Schutz (pronounced shootz) was a three-year starter as an undergraduate at Emory. She spent two seasons as a volunteer assistant with the ABL’s Atlanta Glory, helping player/coach Teresa Edwards, a former Lady Bulldog, and associate coach Connie Guinn, a former UGA assistant, with scouting and film breakdown. Schutz will have similar responsibilities with the Lady Bulldogs.

Former museum building
The former Georgia Museum of Art building--later known as the North Campus Office Building--is now “the Administration Building.” The four-building complex of the Administration Building, Old College, Lustrat House and Waddell Hall will be known as “the Administration Complex.”

Training and Development Center
The word “Staff” has been removed from the name of the Staff Training and Development building. The new name is Training and Development Center.

Physical education
The name of the physical education building (old women’s PE building) has officially been changed. The older wing where the dance department is located is now the dance building. The newer wing, which houses marine sciences, is the marine sciences building. These buildings are now two separate structures adjoined by a corridor.
Instead of sending mail to the PE building, send mail for the dance department to the dance building and mail for marine sciences to the marine sciences building.
