Reading days reminder
Last spring, University Council approved a policy limiting assignments and tests during reading days and final exams, effective this term.
Reading days are designed to provide time for students to prepare for final examinations. No mandatory assignments may be scheduled for completion during reading days, either for course work or for extra-curricular or co-curricular activities. Optional study reviews can be scheduled. The vice president for instruction can grant exceptions to this policy for good cause.
No tests or quizzes are to be administered in any course during the last two calendar days of a semester, unless the course has not been assigned a final examination time slot by the university. Student presentations to the class in a seminar or graduate course are not considered tests or quizzes in this policy.

University Woman’s Club
The University Woman’s Club will hold its annual coffee for regular members and newcomers on Oct. 12 at 10 a.m. at Ashford Manor (5 Harden Hill Rd., Watkinsville). The morning’s activities include refreshments and fellowship, as well as the chance to sign up for interest groups for the year and for volunteering at the University Health Center. University Woman’s Club welcomes any woman faculty member, wife of a faculty member, member or wife of professional or administrative staff, house director or any widow who was eligible for membership at the time of the death of her husband. For further information, call 769-5060.

Alumni Employees breakfast
The Third Annual Alumni Employees Homecoming Breakfast is Oct. 21 from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. in the Georgia Center banquet area. Special guests are National Alumni Association president Hilton Young and head football coach Jim Donnan. The deadline to return the RSVP card is Oct. 15.

Call for student papers
Each year, the Women’s Studies Program sponsors a one-day university-wide student symposium to showcase the diversity and vitality of feminist scholarship at UGA.
Interested students should submit four copies of a one-page, typed abstract briefly describing either a work-in-progress or a term paper, poster or research paper already submitted in class. The abstract should 1) briefly describe the proposed topic, 2) explain how the topic is related to feminist scholarship or issues of gender analysis, and 3) outline material(s) and arguments to be employed in the paper. Individual, joint or panel submissions are acceptable.
The abstract should be accompanied by a cover page which includes the working title of presentation, the student’s name, address, e-mail address and phone number by Dec. 1 to Women’s Studies Student Symposium Committee, 1200 S. Lumpkin St., Campus Mail 3647. Final papers for accepted proposals will be due by Jan. 21. A committee will select 12-15 papers to be presented at the symposium and will inform participants of their decision before Dec. 15.
