| KATHY BANGLE Director of Development College of Veterinary Medicine TIME IN CURRENT POSITION: Three months. OTHER UGA EXPERIENCE: Central Development Office, Gift Planning, 1992-1998. Director of Staff Development, Development Office, 1998-July 1999. JOB DESCRIPTION: Im in charge of securing private gifts to support the College of Veterinary Medicine. I schedule appointments to visit with alumni and friends of the college, and ask them to consider supporting us. My job requires a lot of paperwork, so when Im not on the phone, Im preparing to call, doing follow-up work or preparing information for Dean Keith Prasse. I handle gifts ranging from annual fund donations of $35 to those who contribute $1 million. We ask alumni to help us identify their clients who are interested in animal welfare; some of our biggest donors are not graduates. Let me say, though, that we have very loyal graduates, as well. MOST CHALLENGING PART OF MY JOB: The amount of time it takes to identify a prospect, call the prospect and keep the cycle going. Its a year-round, never-ending process to keep people in the pipeline; theres no downtime. You dont just pick up a check from these people; you get to know them and do your part to keep in touch. MOST REWARDING PART OF MY JOB: I like what I do. My husband, Jeff, is a veterinarian, so I understand peoples love for animals, and I love getting to know people who love UGA, the College of Veterinary Medicine or animals. THE PEOPLE I MOST ADMIRE: My parents, Paul and Kathleen. They provided me with the best childhood I could possibly imagine and were extremely inspiring and supportive. My parents had a wonderful outlook on life; they were patient and encouraging, and had a balance of discipline and fun. I used to ask my parents, Are we the richest people in Madison [Ga.]? And theyd say, Of course, we have each other. OFF-THE-JOB INTERESTS: I like to exercise at the Ramsey Student Center at about 6 in the morning. FAVORITE MUSIC: I listen to everything. Star 94 gets me going in the morning, and I go to sleep to the sounds of classical music on WUGA. I like country music, as well. A BOOK ID RECOMMEND TO OTHERS: Death in Bloodhound Red by Virginia Lanier. Its about a woman in southeast Georgia who raises and trains bloodhounds to track criminals and rescue people. THE ISSUE THAT CONCERNS ME MOST ABOUT TODAYS SOCIETY: I feel that people dont appreciate all of the opportunities we have in life. We take for granted our education, that we can eat. |
