Internships at the UGA Costa Rica Campus
The UGA Costa Rica campus is a site well-adapted to hosting internships in a variety of fields. These include (but are not limited to):
- Agriculture
- Anthropology
- Biology
- Ecology
- Ecotourism
- Education
- Forest and Resource Management
- Latin American Culture
- Spanish
The UGA Costa Rica campus can easily accommodate interns from UGA and other academic institutions who wish to complete their internship requirements in San Luis. We ask that potential interns follow the guidelines given below.
- Credits must be arranged directly through your home academic institution. The UGA Costa Rica campus does not award credits directly under any circumstances.
- An academic advisor from the home institution must be appointed to sponsor the intern. This person will facilitate interaction between the campus and the home institution, and they will coordinate the actual credit assignment.
- The advisor should also help the intern develop an academic plan for their internship. This plan should ideally include the numbers of contact hours per week required, the learning objectives for the internship, and how the intern will be evaluated. This could include anything from formal, written evaluations to final reports/projects to examinations.
- The advisor will work directly with the intern and the Academic Programs Coordinator at the campus to develop activities at the campus designed to meet the given learning objectives. The Academic Programs Coordinator can also serve as an on-site evaluator of the intern as necessary.
- The housing fee for interns is $75/month. This fee includes laundry, Internet, three hot meals per day, and housing on site at the campus. Interns will be housed in small, individual cabins with a shared bath segregated by gender. However, the campus reserves the right to transfer interns to other facilities on-site (bungalow, cabina) based on campus occupancy.
For more information, please contact the Academic Programs Coordinator,
Lindsay Stallcup, at
progcr@uga.edu. To
initiate an internship at the UGA Costa Rica campus, please send a letter of interest
along with your resume, a proposed internship project, and a letter of support from an
academic advisor.
UGA Costa Rica is listed in Green Volunteers, the "World Guide and Information Network to Voluntary Work in Nature Conservation."
