Quint Newcomer serves as Director of UGA Costa Rica. Quint came to the University of Georgia in September 2005 from the Yale University School of Forestry, where he earned a Master of Environmental Management and a PhD in social ecology, studying market incentive mechanisms for private forestland conservation in Costa Rica. Quint recently co-authored the book: Emerging Markets for Ecosystem Services: A Case Study of the Panama Canal Watershed. Prior to attending Yale, Quint lived and worked for most of the 1990s in Costa Rica. His positions included certification manager and business development consultant for a plantation timber and wood products company, executive director of the Monteverde Institute, and country coordinator for the Ocean Conservancy’s International Coastal Cleanup. Prior to working in Costa Rica, Quint earned a Master of International Management degree at Thunderbird-The Garvin School of International Management and, received a BA in economics from the University of Missouri in Columbia.
