Courses
Students can choose from the following course offerings:

Students can earn up to 12 or more hours of UGA resident course credits.

UGA Costa Rica Campus
Students are based at UGA's beautiful campus at the head of the San Luis Valley adjacent to the Monteverde Cloud Forest Preserve. The campus is high enough in elevation to offer a temperate climate year-round. On-site nature trails can be explored, horse-back rides take students throughout San Luis, a natural pool formed by a 80m waterfall can be found after a short hike through the forest, and classes are taught in open-air classrooms and via "living classroom" excursions.

With wide verandas overlooking the Valley, a dining room with soaring ceilings, and computer facilities, the student union is a popular place to congregate. Participants enjoy three fresh meals each day (included in the total cost of the program) and are housed in spacious bungalows nested into the landscape, each with its own private bath. All rooms are doubles.

Excursions
Throughout the semester, students will explore Costa Rica on group excursions. Activities included on the excursions are an integral part of course material and the overall study abroad experience. Students will explore lava flows and thermal springs at Arenal Volcano, go white-water rafting, experience spelunking in Barra Honda National Park, look at coastal systems (both biogeophysical and human social systems) at Playa Junquillal, visit a variety of organic farming operations around Monteverde and Turrialba, study plant diversity at La Selva Biological Reserve and CATIE (with over 350 species in their botanical garden), and EARTH University.

Costs
The program costs approximately $7000 plus in-state UGA tuition and fees. The cost of the program covers lodging and three meals per day at UGA’s Costa Rica campus, study abroad insurance, and hotels, meals, entry fees, and transportation on program excursions. Additional costs include personal items and airfare. Airfare costs generally vary from $550-$850.

***Note: Out-of-state students pay in-state tuition. The HOPE scholarship applies.
