Franklin Residential College Spring Break

March 6 -14th, 2010

Application

Final application deadline - December 4, 2009

Our fifth Franklin Residential College seminar on the culture and ecology of Costa Rica counts for three credits from the Latin American and Caribbean Studies Institute. The seminar meets weekly on Sunday night in anticipation of the Spring Break, when the group travels together from Atlanta to Costa Rica on Saturday, March 6th.

At the research station in San Luis, the students partake in various activities, working with the naturalist and other staff, including nature hikes; exploring the ethno-botanical garden and plant and insect identification workshops; local dance and food workshops; visits to Monteverde sites; and Spanish language practice. On Thursday, the students stay overnight with a local family. The last two days of the trip are spent at the beach in Playa Grande, with the group returning to Atlanta on Sunday, March 14th, again as a group. Students are assigned a presentation to deliver and keep a journal related to their participation in the program.
