Dr. Jennifer A. Samp


Jennifer Samp, Associate Professor and Graduate Coordinator in the Department of Speech Communication, has been a member of the UGA faculty since 2001. She was previously on the faculty of the University of Oklahoma. Jennifer received her M.A. and Ph.D. in Communication Science from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and her B.A.in Rhetoric and Linguistics from Hamilton College.

Jennifer is a communication scholar with a research focus on the dynamics of close personal relationships, including how individuals negotiate and manage intimacy, commitment, and power, as well as how individual mange conflicts that occur in their relationships. As an author of over twenty academic articles, a commentator in popular-press publications, an award-winning teacher, and a trained mediator for the state of Georgia, Jennifer ‘s research and teaching seeks to help individuals better negotiate the natural and important “dips” in relationships so as to strengthen both the lives of individuals and the relationships that they cherish.
