Criminal Justice Program History

The University of Georgia initiated its degree program in Criminal Justice

Studies in 1977. The A.B. in Criminal Justice offered by the University is an

interdisciplinary degree where students draw on the expertise of faculty in

Political Science, Sociology, Psychology and other departments in the College

of Arts and Sciences. In 2002, The School of Public and International Affairs

was established and the Department of Political Science is housed there.  The

Criminal Justice Studies Program now works jointly with both the Franklin

College of Arts and Sciences and with the School of Public and International

Affairs.  In a variety of courses, students are introduced to the academic

disciplines that are needed to understand crime and the administration of

criminal justice. Moreover, each student is given the opportunity to work in a

criminal justice agency in the program's internship.
