Becton Dickinson Facscalibur
The FACSCalibur ( Becton Dickinson ) flow cytometer can analyze cells or particles based on up to 6 different parameters (see list below) using two different laser excitation wavelengths simultaneously, 488 and 633. This is a very user-friendly instrument that trained individuals may use without assistance. Users must attend a training session before operating this instrument.

Dako Cyan
The CyAn ( Dako ) has three laser excitation wavelengths, 405, 488 and 610, that are capable of analyzing 11 parameters simultaneously at speeds up to 20,000 events/second. This cytometer is useful for those searching for rare cells and those with applications requiring more than 4-5 colors to define a cell population. The CyAn is designed to be user friendly and most investigators are comfortable with it after one or more training sessions.

Beckman Coulter Cytomics FC500
The Cytomics FC500 ( Beckman Coulter ) has two laser excitation wavelengths, 488 and 633, that can measure up to 5 colors depending on which laser is turned on (see below). This cytometer has the additional capability of "walk-away" operation. It has two carousels that may be loaded with up to 32 tubes each to be run automatically without user intervention. Users must attend a training session before operating this instrument.

Dako Moflo
The MoFlo ( Dako ) cell sorter purifies or enriches populations by sorting cells or particles based on 11 different parameters using either or all of the following excitation wavelengths - UV, 488, or 633. The MoFlo can sort at speeds up to 60,000 events/second, and can sort single cells into any multi-well platform. Anything that can be visualized on a flow cytometer may be sorted. Researchers interested in using the MoFlo should contact Julie Nelson (see above for contact information) to schedule a consultation.

Bio-Rad Bio-Plex
The Bio-Plex ( Bio-Rad ) protein array system is a flexible, easy-to-use assay based on the Luminex platform. Color-coded beads are conjugated with proteins or peptides to enable the identification of up to 100 different analytes per well of a 96 well plate. Various kits are available from different companies for use of this technology, and information on these kits is available upon request. The Bio-Plex system is designed to be user-friendly and researchers may use it on their own after a single training session.
