Preparation for Testing to Satisfy the Regents' Writing and Reading Skills Requirement
The Regents' Writing and Reading Skills Requirement is a graduation requirement for all students who attend public colleges and universities in Georgia. Students who are required to satisfy the Regents' Requirement by test can take the writing and/or reading tests during their first semester in college, and they are strongly encouraged to do so. If students have not exempted or passed the tests by the time they have earned 45 semester hours credit, they will be blocked from registering for any more classes until they register to take RGTR 0198, Reading Improvement, and/or RGTE 0199, Review of Written English.

Preparation for the Regents' Reading Skills Test
RGTR 0198
The purpose of RGTR 0198, Reading Improvement, is to teach students effective strategies to improve their reading rate and reading comprehension. Students who complete RGTR 0198 are graded S, satisfactory, or U, unsatisfactory. They can register to take the reading skills test only when they have satisfactorily completed RGTR 0198. Students who complete RGTR 0198, but who receive a grade of unsatisfactory, have to repeat the class. No credit toward graduation is earned by completing RGTR 0198.Frequently Asked Questions

- I'm a transfer student. Am I required to take the Regents' test?
- Yes; undergraduate students transferring from outside of the University System of Georgia should take the test during their first semester of enrollment at UGA. The waiver test is administered during the first class session of RGTR 0198 each semester. Students may take the Waiver Test if (1) they have never taken the reading portion of the reading test, (2) they have never taken RGTR 0198, and they have never received a U in RGTR 0198 for non-attendance, and (3) they have never taken the waiver test.
