Internships

Each Washington Semester Program participant will work approximately 30 hours per week at an internship site. Referrals for placements are determined using a variety of factors, including each student’s interests, skills and abilities. Each internship experience will provide a professional work experience, meaningful assignments and a connection to your academic interests. Potential placements include:

  • Congressional Offices
  • Government Agencies
  • Law Firms
  • Nonprofit Organizations
  • Private Corporations
  • Think Tanks

Upon selection into the Washington Semester Program, each participant will work with the Director of the Washington Semester Program to determine the best course(s) of action to obtain an internship. The program director will ensure that the student is made aware of a variety of internship options. In many cases, a student will be referred to potential internship sites by the program director. In some cases, the student may need to complete supplimental application materials and/or participate in an additional selection process.

Students are encouraged to investigate internship possibilities prior to interviewing and potentially being selected. Students may independently seek out internship opportunities. However, in order to participate in the Washington Semester Program, the internship must meet specific guidelines outlined by the program. The Director of the Washington Semester Program reserves the option to deny a student's participation if an indepedently obtained internship does not meet program guidelines.
