WELCOME TO THE

DELTA IOTA CHAPTER

OF

DELTA GAMMA

"The purpose of this Fraternity shall be to foster high ideals of friendship among college women, promote their educational and cultural interests, create in them a true sense of social responsibility and develop in them high qualities of character." Consistent with our Founders' thoughts in 1873, our primary purpose is to create an environment for our members in which lasting friendships and our vows of sisterhood

emanate all aspects of our Fraternity.

Delta Gamma is more than just a collegiate experience; it is a lifetime of commitment, support and opportunity awaiting you. It marks the beginning of a relationship that will last for a lifetime.

PRESIDENT'S NOTE

Hi everyone! My name is Carson Stephens, and I have been given the honor of serving as the current President for the Delta Iota chapter of Delta Gamma. I am so excited for you to explore our website and see all the amazing accomplishments, as well as general information about our chapter. Joining Delta Gamma in the Fall of 2021 was one of the best decisions I have ever made. The lifelong friends, the support system, and the role models Delta Gamma has brought to me are irreplaceable. I am so blessed and honored to have the opportunity to lead these amazing women alongside my wonderful vice presidents and directors. The women of Delta Iota encourage and support one another to the fullest and I hope you all are able to see the devoted relationships formed here at Delta Gamma.

Delta Gamma was founded in December of 1873 in Oxford, Mississippi at the Lewis School for Girls by three young women: Anna Boyd, Mary Comfort, and Eva Webb. This was the start of an organization and sisterhood founded in service, leadership, and academics. With over 250,000 members, 153 collegiate chapters and over 200 alumnae groups, the founding movement to create a safe, empowering, and inclusive community for women on collegiate campuses grows every year. The Greek letters Delta and Gamma were chosen for a reason - to stand for “Do Good.” It remains our motto to this day, as we have become the Do Good Sisterhood.

In 1968, Delta Gamma joined the Greek community at UGA and celebrated 50 years of Delta Iota in Athens in the Spring of 2018 and most recently in the Summer of 2023, the 150th anniversary of Delta Gamma. Our chapter prides itself on true sisterhood, dedication to service and leadership, and our highest ideals of friendship and social responsibility. We are proud to be recognized for all of our hard work and dedication by receiving national awards for these areas, including the Patricia Peterson Daniel Award for Chapter Excellence and the Highest Number of Service Hours of All Delta Gamma Chapters.

Every individual in Delta Iota has a reason as to why Delta Gamma is so special to them, and we hope to give you a glimpse into our eternal sisterhood and show you how memorable our connections are. Delta Gamma has truly been my champion and I cannot express the love and admiration I have for this chapter. I hope as you explore our website you can start to see what makes our chapter so special!

LITB,

Carson Stephens

President 2024
