Minutes for 4/17/03Well folks, it’s my last
meeting as your secretary. I’d like to tell you how much fun it’s
been, but I don’t have enough time to really describe Bobby with his
pants off. Bobby, David, it’s been a lot of fun serving on the bench
with you guys. Here’s to having more fun in the future, and David, I
really hope that rash of yours clears up real soon.
Anyways, we had one first time guest and Mr. Gattis, who’s been
here several times. Ms. Kravig was also present.
Ms. Webb rose so she could talk about farewells. Next week,
folks. One last meeting before summer!
Mr. Addison delivered the finance committee report, which was
passed.
Ms. Webb rose again and presented:
BIR The word God does not belong in any official state or
national statement. Res sub Mary Louise Webb
Mr. Addison rose and said that 70% of Americans believe in some
kind of a higher being, so if they want In God We Trust on things,
it should be there
Mr. Kennedy said that In God We Trust may very well be
constitutional, but is it right? He said no
Mr. Moulds said that throughout our history, God has been
interwoven in our government
Mr. Bogue said that if Japan were to become a part of the United
States, their religious rights would be protected. Religion is
supposed to be protected from the state.
Ms. Skrmetti said that in our secular govt, "God" is offensive
and oppressive
Ms. Rodenburg said that we can’t interpret the constitution in
terms of the founding fathers.
Ms. Aaron said that our govt has always been a radical govt and
that God was used to reassure people.
Mr. Mathes said that we’ve got a post-modernist view on the
situation and that since he’s never seen a star, we should remove
the stars on the American flag
Mr. Lewis said that it is up to the state to protect people.
States can have religions. He also addressed the idea that people
are prejudiced against Evangelical Christians
Ms. Hines said that we live in a diverse country and that by
having In God We Trust on things makes it a staple.
Mr. Grosse agrees with Todd and he wonders how do the words In
God We Trust oppress people.
I said that since people are offended by having In God….on
things, we should take it off and see what happens. We are, after
all, an experimental govt
Ms. D’Andrea ask who is "we" and she said that our country is
about Democracy, not God
Mr. Theiss said that the resolution is a violation of First
Amendment rights because people can still say In God We Trust
Mr. Pitts said the resolution is well worded and that having God
does more harm than good. The administration is just trying to push
Christianity
Mr. Boggs called the question and the resolution passed 12-9 with
members and failed 0-2 among guests.
Mr. Kennedy presented a constitutional amendment calling for the
formation of a Media Committee to deal with the webpage, etc.
Ms. Webb presented
BIR: The RDA of nutrition should be enforced as law. Res sub Mary
Webb
I spoke saying that the resolution was "conformist crap"
Mr. Cull says that it’s too much food is killing us in this
country
Mr. Addison said that the federal govt is our parent and that
he’s been constricted
Mr. Kennedy yelled at Ms. Webb asking who would enforce this, the
food police?
Mr. Lewis gave a speech, but after reading the notes taken, I
have no idea what he said. Nothing new there, folks…
Mr. Smith brought up soylent green. IT’S PEOPLE!!!!!!
Mr. Bogue said something about the ultimate fighting
championship. What the heck is that anyways?
The resolution failed 3 to 14 with Mr. Vick calling the
resolution Poppy cock, and Mr. Peery fearing that soon, his lungs
would have to be filled with oxygen, rather than delicious cigarette
smoke
Mr. Theiss presented a constitutional amendment asking for Damn
Yankee to be removed as an acceptable profanity in the upper
chamber.
Mr. Kennedy said that the phrase creates stereotypes
Mr. Moulds, a Damn Yankee himself, said that the phrase was a
joke
Ms. Boggs said we should be able to use all words in the upper
chamber
Mr. Addison apologized to Mr. Theiss for trying to repeatedly
have him thrown out of the upper chamber
Mr. Lewis quoted NWA, which had a plethora of dirty dirty words.
He said we should allow all profanity
Ms. Webb pointed out that there should be no exceptions because
it gives the society a bad image if you hate Yankees so much that
you’re breaking a rule just to insult them. She mentioned Ms Graham
always puts prepositions in the correct place IN HER EVERYDAY
SPEECH!!!! Scary stuff! Mr. Lewis said he was persuaded by Ms.
Webb’s speech.
The amendment was tabled for later.
Ms. Webb then presented a list of everything she believes in. I
could read it all, but it’s an awful lot.
Mr. Lewis pointed out that everything was contradictory. Hehe.
Mr. Miller went line by line and agreed with some parts and
disagreed with others.
Ms. Winchell said that porno can be good. Hehehehe.. She got Ms.
Webb to vote against the resolution by pointing out that Connie
Chung is BAD, which makes CNN bad.
The resolution failed 6-15.
I just wanted to say it’s been a pleasure. I hope that the next
person has even half as much fun as I have had sitting here. I’m
just glad that Bobby will stop harassing myself and David.
Respectfully submitted,
Amish Trivedi
