Reviewers' Comments Regarding UGA WebService

Lycos A2Z The University of Georgia, Athens, offers more than the standard school brochure at this site. Investigate student life via a visit to campus organizations online or by reading the extensive news and sports reports available.
Best of the Web Competition consideration regarding UGA This email exchange is somewhat interesting. The University of Georgia was placed on the long (or "dirty" list) in the Campus-Wide Information Services category for the 1996 competition. We didn't make the cut to the short (or "clean" list), but, to their credit, the College of Family and Consumer Sciences did make the cut to a list of only seven schools. Since FCS doesn't represent the entire campus, the UGA Webmaster, not to complain, just to be informed, sent email to the CWIS Coordinator. This is an excerpt from the mail sent by the UGA Webmaster:

No real problem, because you folks make your list from nominations received. Even though www.uga.edu was on your "dirty" list, I understand that it does not necessarily belong on your "clean" list.

A quick and timely response was received. We were pleased to find out that the UGA site was among the top ten. The response:

This very thing caused a bit of fighting here! We try to take the sites with the greatest host impressions submitted, after removing the items that didn't seem to fit the category (many people post their site to every category). We thought that FCS fit more closely with the CWIS category than with the on-line educational service category. www.uga.edu was in fact amoung the top ten submitted sites in CWIS, so we had to decide whether to switch www.fcs.uga.edu with just www.uga.edu. In the end we went with fcs, because although it's not campus-wide, it contains the sort of things a CWIS should have, and is a link away from the whole CWIS.

I'm really sorry if this is causing any strife amoung your web content providers at the University of Georgia! If you win the BOTW award, it really is the whole CWIS that's being rewarded.

Congratulations! Your page: http://www.uga.edu/ has been selected to receive a Links2Go Key Resource award in the Georgia topic (If you received a previous email from us, sorry! We had a little snafu in the topic name).

The Links2Go Key Resource award is both exclusive and objective. Fewer than one page in one thousand will ever be selected for inclusion. Further, unlike most awards that rely on the subjective opinion of "experts," many of whom have only looked at tens or hundreds of thousands of pages in bestowing their awards, the Links2Go Key Resource award is completely objective and is based on an analysis of millions of web pages. During the course of our analysis, we identify which links are most representative of each of the thousands of topics in Links2Go, based on how actual page authors, like yourself, index and organize links on their pages. In fact, the Key Resource award is so exclusive, even we don't qualify for it (yet ;)!
