About DGK

DiGamma Kappa is the official broadcasting society at the University of Georgia, and it is the nation's oldest broadcast society. The organization was established in 1939 and has been connecting students to the professional worlds of television and radio broadcasting through conventions, workshops, and other activities for over 65 years. Each spring, DGK hosts a banquet for the annual Georgia Association of Broadcasters Convention where students can mingle with dozens of professionals from the broadcast industry all at once. DGK also attends the annual NAB/BEA conference in Las Vegas. NAB BEA

DGK encourages student participation in all phases of production for television and radio, and it fosters professional competence among its members. DGK brings in professionals to speak to members, holds various workshops, and offers members hands-on experience with writing, directing, producing, shooting, and editing. This experience comes from video projects that local non-profit groups and student organizations ask DGK to produce.

FAQ

Is DiGamma Kappa Greek?
No. DGK is not a fraternity or sorority. It is a professional society that anyone can join. All we ask is that you have a strong interest in the news or entertainment industry for television or radio - and 40 bucks. See How to Join

What are the meetings like?
We generally meet twice a month (every second and fourth Wednesday). Some meetings feature guest speakers, Grady faculty, or alumni. We host workshops on cameras and editing equipment, make announcements about future projects DGK members can participate in, and have social events so you can better know your peers and the staff of Grady.

What kind of guest speakers come to the meetings?
We usually invite people in the broadcast industry that either recognizable in themselves or come from a recognizable company such as CNN or WSB. Our guests offer invaluable insight into the broadcast industry and help students understand what they will be up against once they graduate. Some guest speakers will actually teach members a skill, such as scriptwriting, production planning, and resume writing! Please see the guest speakers page to find out who’s been to meetings in recent years.

What does DGK offer to the community?
Besides making low-cost, high-quality videos for local and campus organizations, DGK also participates in a charity event every year. In the past few years DGK has sponsored a team for Relay for Life, but this year we are selling t-shirts to benefit CASA. If you are interested in purchasing one for only $5, contact Rachel.
