Mell and Lipscomb Competition Ends with a “Hog Hoedown” |
Residents of Mell and Lipscomb Halls celebrated with a “Hog Hoedown” for the end of their month-long energy conservation competition, “Don’t Be an Energy Hog, Be an Efficiency Dawg!”
The celebration was held on Sunday, March 25, at the lawn between Mell and Lipscomb.
Adam Hinman and Benjamin Cobb, the initiators of this campaign, declared Mell Hall residents as the Efficiency Dawgs of this competition. The winning residents were entitled to win prizes, sponsored by UGA Unplugged and local Athens businesses.
Hinman and Cobb further encouraged residents from both halls to maintain awareness of energy issues and to continue with their efforts in conserving energy in the future.
All residents were awarded free food from Sonny’s BBQ, sponsored by the Residence Hall Association.
The two pigs that made an appearance at the kick-off celebration in February were brought back for the ending celebration. These pigs were sponsored by the Department of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences.
Statistics have shown that this month-long energy conservation competition was a success with an increase in student awareness of the issue and a decrease in energy usage in the two residence halls.
