Kappa Deuteron Awards

Each year, the International Fraternity of Phi Gamma Delta recognizes its chapters for various achievements. Below is a description of each award and the number of times the Kappa Deuteron Chapter at the University of Georgia has won it since 1968, the year Phi Gamma Delta was reestablished at UGA.

Cheney Cup goes to the undergraduate chapter which demonstrates the greatest all-around efficiency in scholarship, fraternity relationships, and general collegiate activities. Kappa Deuteron holds the international record with 12. We also have several 2nd and 3rd-place finishes and Honorable Mentions.

Baker Cup is awarded to the undergraduate chapter deemed most effective in focusing attention upon religious, ethical, and social service activities in daily conduct. Kappa Deuteron won the 2002 Baker Cup and also holds one 2nd-place and four Honorable Mentions.

Zerman Trophy is earned by the undergraduate chapter judged to excel in promoting the involvement of brothers in student government, the campus newspaper, and extracurricular activities. We have won the Trophy 9 times, including a recent win for 2003, and have numerous 2nd-place, 3rd-place and Honorable Mentions.

Condon Cup is awarded to the undergraduate chapter which has shown the greatest improvement over the past academic year in the areas of scholarship, extracurricular activities, and fraternity relationships. One 1st place, one Honorable Mention.

Coon Plaque is bestowed upon the undergraduate chapter which has produced the best chapter publication for the preceeding year. Five Honorable Mentions.

Jordan Bowl goes to the undergraduate chapter which is judged to have achieved the highest comparative scholarship among the undergraduate chapters for the preceeding academic year. Two Seconds, two thirds and several Honorable Mentions.

Owen Cup is presented to the undergraduate chapter which has shown the greatest improvement in scholarship over the preceeding year. It's hard to improve on our already excellent record! Two Seconds, three Honorable Mentions.

The Brightman Awards are earned by the undergraduate and graduate chapter which best demonstrate that Phi Gamma Delta is "not for college days alone." Kappa Deuteron brought home this prestigious award for 2003, adding to two 2nd-places, two third place, and numerous honorable mentions.

Wilkinson Award is awarded to Phi Gamma Delta's most outstanding graduating senior. Since 1968, four Kappa Deuteron men have won this prestigious award.

Durrance Award is presented to the graduate brother who is judged the most outstanding Purple Legionnaire in the Fraternity. Dr. Morehead has received 5 honorable mentions, two 2nd-place, and two 1st-place finishes since becoming Purple Legionnaire in 1989. William Bracewell also received one Honorable mention during his tenure as Purple Legionnaire.

Coulter Cup goes to the graduate brother who has contributed the most to an undergraduate chapter through service in a capacity other than as Purple Legionnaire. Two Kappa Deuteron Brothers have won this award.

Certificates of Superior Academic Achievement are earned by chapters which have been above the all-men's average on their campuses for 5 or more consecutive years. We have achieved this for 35 years straight!
