These awards honor the "best in the business" on an annual basis and recognize a food service staff's expertise and creativity. The program also fosters a competitive spirit on each campus to promote quality, teamwork, and excellence.
Under the direction of J. Michael Floyd, the University of Georgia Food Services has the national record of achieving more Horton Awards than any other college food service operation in the nation. The department head has a career total of 69 Hortons (including nine that his operations earned while he was the Director of Food Services at Valdosta State College).
