Overview

In order to ensure minimal impact to the University of Georgia’s instructional activities, the following non-class days have been designated as institutional furlough days:

  • October 30, 2009
  • November 25, 2009
  • December 24, 2009
  • January 4, 2010
  • March 8, 2010
  • April 30, 2010

Only faculty and staff that are required to provide essential operations will be permitted to report to work on these days. Individual department heads/directors are responsible for determining appropriate staffing levels, if needed to maintain essential operations, and will provide their personnel, including those NOT subject to furloughs, with specific instructions on furlough procedures and scheduling.

Paychecks for faculty and staff paid on a monthly basis will reflect a reduction in gross pay for the required furlough day regardless of when it is taken that month. Paychecks for personnel paid every two weeks will reflect a reduction in gross pay for the required furlough day in the two-week pay period in which the furlough day was taken.

The following links provide detailed questions and answers on the “who, what, when, where, and why” of furloughs.
