Author to discuss the Bartrams’ travels

Author Brad Sanders will talk about “An Itinerary of Discovery—Tracing the Bartrams Across the South” Sept. 3 at 5:30 p.m. in the Richard B. Russell Building Special Collections Libraries auditorium. It is part of a series of events celebrating the 250th anniversary of John and William Bartram’s Natural History Expedition in Colonial Georgia. The presentation will be followed by a reception and gallery tour.

Football season opens at home

The Bulldog football team returns to the gridiron Sept. 5 at noon in Sanford Stadium to open the season against University of Louisiana-Monroe. The SEC Network will televise the game.

WUGA-FM sponsoring Jazz Festival
WUGA-FM is sponsoring the 2015 Athens Jazz Festival Sept. 6 from 1 to 7 p.m. on the lawn of the Georgia Center for Continuing Education. Performing will be the Classic City Dixiedawgs, Classic City Swing Band, Peachtree Band of Jazz, Mary Sigalas (above), Artie Ball Swing Band and Trey Wright.
