THE GEORGIA NETWORK


The Mission of the Georgia Network is to provide capacity, building services and leadership for alcohol and other drug prevention resources for the institutions of higher education in the state of Georgia.

Our vision is to enable institutions of higher education in the state of Georgia to provide prevention initiative that support safe and healthy environments through reducing the harm associated with alcohol and other drug abuse.

The Georgia Network adopted the goals of The Network to be implemented on a state level. The goal of The Network is to serve member institutions by:
  1. Encouraging the implementation of The Network Standards
    1. Promote The Network Standards in higher education
    2. Disseminate Network Standards at national Forums and regional/local conferences and meetings
  2. Providing expertise to institutions of higher education, appropriate organizations, and agencies
    1. Sustain communication and collaboration with national, regional, state, and local stakeholders
    2. Maintain visibility and vitality by developing strategies for additional resources, membership recruitment and retention, and national forums to exchange ideas and information
  3. Identifying and informing public policy regarding issues of alcohol, other drugs, and violence prevention
    1. Collaborate with the U.S. Department of Education to identify and influence emerging strategies and practices by appropriate governing bodies/organizations
    2. Create and foster environments in which information exchange can occur
    3. Provide training for campus practitioners on how to influence institutional policy development
The Standards of The Network: Addressing Collegiate Alcohol and Other Drug issues are recommended guidelines for institutional membership in The Network and the Georgia Network. The Standards are organized within five areas:
  • Policy
  • Education and Student Assistance
  • Enforcement
  • Assessment
  • Community Collaboration.
