In the fall of 2005, the Department of Human Resources Division of Mental
Health, Developmental Disabilities and Addictive Diseases awarded a
contract to the Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia to create a statewide office of substance abuse
prevention in higher education in conjunction with the Georgia Network . The new Georgia Network Office for Substance Abuse
Prevention in Higher Education served as the collegiate arm of the Office of Prevention
Services and Programs until March 31, 2006.
The Georgia Network is a statewide organization that follows the vision,
mission and goals of The Network: Addressing Collegiate Alcohol & Other
Drug Issues and proactively addresses the issues of alcohol and other
drugs in order to promote healthy campus environments. The Georgia Network
promotes the use of The Network Standards as a guide for alcohol and other drug
prevention programming. Membership in The Georgia Network is open to all institutions of higher
education in the state of Georgia.
