The Garden Club of Georgia encourages all of its adult clubs to sponsor Youth Garden Clubs—whether at the elementary, middle school or high school level. They can be affiliated with a school, church, neighborhood, or an established Scout group.

Programs should be tailored to the interest of the membership and to the grade level of the students. Blairsville Junior Garden Club Water Cleanup
Pictured at right are three members of the Blairsville Jr. Garden Club with one of the nine bushels of litter that the club collected recently at a local boat ramp. The juniors were amazed at the amount of litter they found. The club has studied the "GEORGIA! Keep It Green and Clean" video and booklet and a publication of the National Association of Conservation Districts' "Share the Water," which emphasizes the importance of keeping our water clear and clean.

Euharlee "Sprouts" Youth Garden Club Plant Bulbs
On Saturday, December 1, 2007, the Sprouts, of the Euharlee Youth Garden Club, planted bulbs at the Emmie Nelson Library Sign in Euharlee. They planted bulbs and pansies for the beautification of the area. This is one of their many projects. The youths are of all ages and from different schools in the area. They are sponsored by the Hoe'n in Euharlee Garden Club. The group was organized in November of 2007 and has been off to a great start. They have also made bird houses and donated one to the library.

"Bag a Bushel" with Hoe'n in Euharlee Garden Club Youth Sprouts
In keeping with GCG President Sara Lanier's anti-litter campaign, this youth garden club certainly has mounted an all out effort to pick up trash in Euharlee.

On this spring day in April, the Sprouts and adult leaders picked up 144.55 bushels of trash, which amounted to 800 pounds.

Youth Garden Clubs at Flower Shows

Pam Kuchler and Cheryl Hinderscheid of the Crabapple Garden Club with youth winners in "Color Me Beautiful," a Standard Flower Show, presented by the Gainesville Federated Garden Club Council on March 28-29, 2008. Trevor won first place in the 7-year-old division and took the Youth Top Award. Demetrius was the 6-year-old winner. They are members of the Crabapple Seedlings, the Junior Garden Club of Crabapple Garden Club.

A Camellia District youth club created this educational display on herbs and entered it at a flower show.

Sara from Conyers, Georgia, entered a floral design in the Yellow Daisy Flower Show—Daisy Dances Round the World at Stone Mountain. Her entry captured the theme when she wrote "I danced the YMCA in the shoes my Grandmother wore to dance . . ." and her design container was a pair of silver shoes. Sara was awarded several blue ribbons including the NGC Youth Award Ribbon.
