As part of Globis new working paper series, graduate students are encouraged to submit a research paper for consideration. Deadline: May 31

Carlo A. Pelanda Graduate Student Paper Award

As part of its Working Papers Series, Globis is pleased to announce the first annual Carlo Pelanda Graduate Student Research Paper competition. Submissions to this competition will be accepted until 31 May 2008, and must address one of the following research areas:

  • Development and Maintenance of Democratic Systems
  • Immigration, Diversity, and Social Change
  • Sustainable Development
  • Applied Peacemaking

Details concerning the scope of each of these research areas can be found under “Research” on our website. The papers will be evaluated in a multi-stage review process, and one grand winner will be selected by a faculty review panel and awarded $500. Furthermore, the papers of the finalists in each of the research areas will be featured in an annual Globis publication. Finally, all papers considered for the final award will become part of the Globis Working Papers Series repository, to be made available on the Globis Web site.

The review process for this competition will entail initial peer reviews (June-August 2008) followed by faculty-directed reviews (August-January). One requirement for participation in this competition is that each applicant will blind-review one other applicant's paper (this comprises the peer review process mentioned above), according to established review criteria (to be announced). The finalists and the grand prize winner will be selected by a faculty committee and awarded in January 2009.

The papers should be approximately 15-20 pages in length, double-spaced, and must include a bibliography. Research papers that have been submitted to a graduate class or a conference are also acceptable. Should you have any questions concerning the research areas, the review process, or the paper requirements, please contact Globis (glawards@uga.edu).
