What does the optional game reserve tour include and what is the cost?

The tour will consist of a five-day tour of South Africa’s famous and spectacular Garden Route, including a stay in one of the game reserves in the Eastern Cape Province. The Garden Route consists of hundreds of miles of coastland between Cape Town and Port Elizabeth, along the Indian Ocean. This region contains some of the country’s best beaches, alongside lush forests and lakes. It is one of the country’s favorite holiday destinations.

The Eastern Cape game parks, which encompass thousands of acres of unspoiled natural landscape in a malaria-free zone, boast a wealth of flora and fauna, including the Big Five (elephant, lion, leopard, rhino, and buffalo).

Cost. The estimated cost of the tour is $2,000 Included. Included are all meals, accommodation, transportation, entrance fees and tour/game reserve guides. Not included are personal expenses and telephone calls.
Note: if you go on the post-program tour, you will need to arrange to fly out of Port Elizabeth, either to Cape Town or to Johannesburg, to return to the United States.

How do I defer payment if I am on financial aid?

Students on financial aid may defer payment by submitting a copy of the award letter stating the amount of financial aid. This must be done before the payment deadlines stated on Program Fees and Refund Policies for the program they are attending. Any amount not covered by financial aid must be paid by the stated deadline.

Do I need any vaccinations to go on the program?

No vaccinations are required to enter South Africa. Neither the Western Cape nor the Eastern Cape is an area with malaria or tropical diseases, so you will not need to take any special precautions to participate in the program. If, however, you are planning to travel on your own to other parts of the country or to other African countries, you should check with a travel clinic or your local health-care provider at least four to six weeks before leaving to see what vaccines you will need or what medicines you might wish to take.
