Helping hand for a war-torn beauty

Located directly across the Adriatic Sea from Italy, Croatia is a country of dramatic topographical contrasts—from beautiful coastal towns such as Dubrovnik (above) to farmlands to a snow-peaked alpine region. Croatia's beauty stands in sharp contrast to the bombed-out images that appeared on nighty newscasts during Yugoslavia's recent civil war. To help prepare the country for possible membership in the European Union in 2007, UGA faculty and administrators are advising the University of Zagreb on the concept of outreach, which will, in turn, improve Croatians' lives.
