Dogs prevail in thrilling (and scary) overtime bowl game
The AJC headline read: Hard-Earned Hardware. Which is an apt description of how coach Mark Richt and game MVP David Greene felt as they accepted the Capital One bowl game trophy in Orlando on New Years Day. The Dogs squandered a 24-0 lead against Purdue but prevailed 34-27 in overtime, with freshman Kregg Lumpkin scoring the winning TD. The game had the highest TV rating among all non-BCS Championship Series matchups. Also of note: UGAs football graduation rate of 67 percent was the highest among the top 10 teams in the final regular-season BCS rankings.
