2,400-degree kiln fire lights up the night

Geoff Pickett (MFA '85) stokes his two-chambered wood kiln in rural Farmington to 2400 degrees, which causes salt to vaporize and bond with silicates on the surface of the clay. The result of his labors is a beautiful pot with a glassy orange peel glaze. To meet more of UGA's family of potters—alumni, faculty, and students—see "Potters paradise."
