Birmingham artist Chris Fennell (MFA ’02) brings the bus to the bus stop in his winning entry in a contest sponsored by the Athens Area Arts Council and Athens-Clarke County. Four winning designs were chosen in the

“You Me and the Bus” competition and each is now displayed on a prominent Athens thoroughfare. Fennell’s bus stop, made from the recycled body of a yellow school bus, is on Broad Street near Alps Road.

The competition was designed to spotlight public transportation in Athens by showcasing the creativity of local artists.

Other winners included two people affiliated with the Lamar Dodd School of Art. Part-time instructor Didi Dunphy and Associate Professor Michael Oliveri were part of the six-person Athens Design Development Team that created Blazberry Highway, located on West Broad Street near the entrance to St. Mary’s Hospital.
