Michael and Susy Dirr/Special/2004
Susy Dirr died Jan. 24, just shy of her 31st birthday. Dirr (ABJ ’99) was born with cystic fibrosis, a genetic condition affecting the cells lining the lungs and digestive system. Georgia Magazine featured Dirr in June 2004; as that issue went to press, Dirr got the call for her second double lung transplant. Dirr was valedictorian at Oconee County High School in Watkinsville and graduated near the top of her UGA class with a degree in advertising, taking only three years to complete her coursework. She is survived by parents Bonnie and Michael, a well-known horticulturist and former UGA faculty member, and siblings Matthew and Katherine.
