Woods woos, weds former Miss Indiana
Stuart Woods (AB ’59) and Barbara Ellen were married on
April 7 aboard Enticer, a 1935, 85-foot motor yacht, while cruising off Beaufort, S.C.
A prolific author of mystery novels, Woods grew up in Manchester, Ga., before earning a degree in sociology from UGA. From there he worked in New York, London and Dublin as an advertising writer before settling into a career as an author. He has written a memoir, a travel book and 39 novels, which regularly make the New York Times Best Sellers List.
Ellen grew up in Indiana, where she majored in dance at Indiana University. She studied acting and appeared in the soap opera “Love of Life.” She was Miss Indiana and first runner up in the Miss America Pageant in 1978. Both her mother and grandmother preceded her as Miss Indiana.
The couple first met 25 years ago at Elaine’s, the Upper East Side restaurant frequented by writers and actors. They renewed their acquaintance there six years ago, after Woods’ divorce from a previous wife. They will live in Key West, Fla., Mt. Desert Island, Maine, and in New York City.
