In the past decade, UGA has taken specific measures to regreen areas of campus, including replacing surface parking lots and streets with parks and pedestrian thoroughfares. Long-term plans call for much more. By 2034, university plans include a pedestrian greenway stretching from Broad Street downtown to the intramural fields on South Campus. Some sections already are in place, such as a portion of D.W. Brooks Mall (shown at left) between Green and Carlton streets. Along the way, architects plan to construct environmentally friendly features, including rain gardens to reduce ground pollution.
