Noted physics professor dies





William M. Yen, 72, UGA’s first Graham Perdue Professor of Physics, died Jan. 17. Yen came to UGA in 1986 after serving on the faculty of the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He was well known internationally as a leader in the field of optical properties of solids and was a pioneer in the application of lasers in the study of condensed matter.
