The severe drought affecting most of north Georgia was a wake up call for many communities to review and revise their water consumption—and UGA was no different. A task force, appointed by President Michael F. Adams, in December presented a list of recommendations for cutting campus water use. Priorities included making systemic changes to campus construction and maintenance practices to retain water and use it more efficiently, developing an emergency management plan to identify and prioritize critical campus functions to maintain in a water supply crisis, and beefing up a public awareness campus to increase knowledge of the issue and encourage behavior changes.
