GEORGIA SOUTHERN BOTANICAL GARDEN

Being developed on a ten acre remnant of a South Georgia farm, Georgia Southern Botanical Garden's mission is to teach people to appreciate the native plants and animals of the southeastern coastal plain, and to connect them to the natural and cultural heritage of the region. A restored 19th century cottage serves as a visitor's center. The site features intense plantings of heritage plants and patios around the cottage, a bird and butterfly border, children's vegetable garden, woodland trails and typical farm buildings that include two barns. An updated master plan is nearing completion which will add a new visitors center building, a native plant landscape garden, vignettes of coastal plain native habitats, and enhanced heritage gardens.
