UGA president accepts ALS Challenge

President Jere W. Morehead participated in the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge along with two students on Aug. 22. Morehead issued a challenge to Dr. Steve Stice, a Georgia Research Alliance Eminent Scholar who conducts neuroscience research. In anticipation of the football season opener against Clemson University, Drew Jacoby, president of UGA's Student Government Association, and Peyton Bell, president of UGA's Graduate Student Association, issued challenges to their counterparts at Clemson.

Exhibit to celebrate ‘Gone With the Wind’


The Hargrett Rare Book and Manuscript Library will open an exhibit celebrating the 75th anniversary of the premiere of “Gone With the Wind” Aug. 23 from 2 to 6 p.m. in the Richard B. Russell Building Special Collections Libraries Auditorium. The library is home to the largest collection of Margaret Mitchell materials in the country. The schedule of events includes an exhibit tour, lectures and a reception. Cost is $50.

Recreational Sports begins intramurals registration


The UGA Recreational Sports program has begun registration for a variety of intramural sports, from soccer to golf to Frisbee. Entry fees and registration deadlines vary for each team sport. For more information, see the Rec Sports intramurals website (


Grogus to perform at Botanical Garden
Grogus will perform Aug. 26 at 7 p.m. at the State Botanical Garden of Georgia as part of this year's Sunflower Concert Series. Grogus performs upbeat Latin jazz, traditional Cuban and Caribbean styles, and funk versions of jazz standards. Steve Dancz will open.  Admission to each concert includes beverages and light snacks. Attendees are encouraged to bring blankets and picnic dinners. Tickets are $15 or $5 for children ages 6-12.
