Dalton State College: Summer 2001

Presentation given to students by Brice Nelson, Public Relations Coordinator for Agricultural Education, on the opportunities that a college education holds.
Dalton State College's specific goals were to: 1) acclimate Latino students to the college environment and process; 2) establish mentoring relationships between students and teachers; 3) enhance the students' academic skills in the English language; and 4) engage undergraduates in tutoring Latino students and familiarizing them with their needs.

  • Fifty-four students attended the five-week program.
  • Students from Dalton, Whitfield, and Murray Counties participated.
  • Students studied for Georgia High School Graduation Tests in the areas of mathematics, science, social studies, and writing skills.
  • Students were trained in the use of computer technology.

On the last day, students received certificates of completion, a tour of the college and the Steps To College Viewbook with class photos, activities, news articles on the program and college admissions information.
