The STC programs at Gainesville College and Dalton State College met with such success that STC is now at UGA! The program is coordinated by the American Language Program at the Georgia Center for Continuing Education in close cooperation with the Athens-Clarke County school district.

Participants
- 34 Athens-Clarke county rising 9th-12th grade students identified by guidance counselors and teachers. 34 students completed 133 hours of individualized instruction and received one Carnegie unit toward high school graduation.
- Two Athens-Clarke county teachers, nine UGA teaching assistants, and four volunteers.
Participating Organizations
- Clarke County School District
- Clarke county bilingual liaisons who contacted families and received permission and commitment for program attendance
Curriculum
- Intensive instruction four days per week, seven hours per day
- Students divided into two groups for instructional purposes:
ESOL group: English and study skills
Morning academic group: language arts and social studies
Afternoon academic group: science and math
Field Trips
- Fernbank Museum of Natural History
- Georgia Museum of Art
- Botanical Gardens of Georgia
Activities Throughout the Year
- After school tutoring at the high schools will be conducted for ten weeks in Fall 2002.
- Field trips to post secondary institutions will be scheduled also for Fall 2002.
- Students grades will be monitored to assess the success of this program.
- Students have been invited to participate in a Center for Latin American and Caribbean Studies program during Hispanic Awareness month at UGA.
