ARTICLE I: Name
The name of the organization shall be called Hong Kong Student Union (HKSU).
ARTICLE II: Purpose
The purpose of HKSU shall be:
1) To promote solidarity among Hong Kong students and scholars.
2) To give Hong Kong students and scholars a chance to know each other, help each other, and work hand in hand to integrate into the new community.
3) To enable Hong Kong students and scholars to share their culture and traditions with American students and other international students.
4) To try to raise awareness of the international student community in the University of Georgia.
ARTICLE III: Membership
There shall be only one type of membership: Regular.
1) Regular membership is opened to all students, faculty, and/or staff members who are currently enrolled in the University of Georgia.
2) Membership shall not be denied to any person because of age, race, sex, religion, handicap, or national origin.
ARTICLE IV: Dues and Payment
The membership fee is $5.00 per semester.
ARTICLE V: Officers
The positions of officers include:
1) President
2) Vice- President
3) Treasurer
4) Webmaster
The term of the above positions is one year.
ARTICLE VI: Meetings
There shall be at least 2 general meetings in every half of the school year. Special meetings will be held whenever there are special events and festivals. The President and the Vice-President have the right to call meetings.
ARTICLE VII: Quorum
50 % of the general members shall be present in case of any business transaction.
ARTICLE VIII: Amendments
1) This constitution shall remain effective unless amended in the general meetings with the approval of 50% of the present members.
2) Any general member shall have the right to propose an Amendment in any general meeting.
ARTICLE IX: Ratification
This constitution shall be passed to all general members, and approved by all general members before the forming of the organization.
BY- LAWS: The by-laws would contain
1) All members are expected to try their best to attend all general meetings and special meetings.
2) All members shall have the same right and freedom to vote and to voice their opinions in the organization.
3) Any officer who wants to resign should submit a letter of explanation in the general meeting, and this resignation should be approved by 50 % of the present members.
4) The duties of the officers are:
President:
a) Preside general meetings and special meetings.
b) Propose and work with other officers in organizing
activities.
c) Work with the adviser and the Office of International
Student Life to promote the organization's activities.
d) Keep track of the current University events and activities.
Vice-President:
a) Perform the function of the President during the absence
of the President.
b) Work with the President in organizing activities.
c) Arrange general meetings and special meetings.
Treasurer:
a) Manage the finance of the organization.
b) Attend the budget meeting held by the ISL office.
Webmaster:
Frequently update the organization website.
5) Election of the President:
a) The general elections for the organization should be held in general meetings not later than one month to the end of the school year.
b) All members have the right to vote, and the ballots are anonymous.
c) Election is be won by the candidate with simple majority of votes.
d) In the case of a tie, a by-election shall be run between the tie candidates.
6) The positions of all other officers are appointed by the President.
7) This by-law shall be amended if it is approved by 50 % of members.
