A Culture of Honesty
The Office of the Vice President for Instruction is responsible for the University's academic honesty process and supporting the UGA Student Academic Honesty Council. Information related to the academic honesty policy is available to all members of the University community.
Purpose of the Council
The Student Academic Honesty Council is devoted to promoting the University’s academic honesty policy. The Council educates the University community – students, faculty, and staff – by example, outreach, interaction and education. Using proactive measures to uphold the integrity of the University, and thus increasing the value of a UGA degree, the Council has become a vital peer resource in academic honesty.
Members are ambassadors, educators and peers in the University community.
Joining the Council
The Student Academic Honesty Council offers an interactive and challenging learning environment designed for students who wish to develop personal leadership skills, serve the University community, and better understand the values of honesty, personal integrity, and high ethical standards. It also offers an opportunity to work with peers, faculty at the University, and dedicated staff professionals.
In the first weeks of each semester, University students interested in joining the Council may apply for membership. Because of the important and serious nature of the Council’s purpose, students applying should embody the values of the organization and be willing to contribute their time in service to the University.
Once accepted, new members are provided with orientation and training regarding “A Culture of Honesty,” and some members may be asked to complete additional training to serve as Academic Honesty Panelists and/or Honesty Educators.
