honors program student council

The purpose of the Honors Program Student Council (HPSC) is to coordinate academic, social, and service functions to promote the Honors community. It also serves as a liaison between the Honors student body and the Honors Program staff and administration. HPSC is comprised of 14-18 members, who are divided into two committees - the Service Committee and the Programming Committee. HPSC has four officers, comprised of returning members - president, secretary, and chairs of the Service and Programming committees.

HPSC Programming sponsors such events as the Fall Bash, Flipping Out Over Finals, Open Mic with Dr. Williams, Honors Student Art Show, Night on the Quad, lectures by professors, and information sessions for pre-medical and pre-law students. HPSC Service sponsors service projects at places such as the Food Bank of Northeast Georgia and the Thomas Lay Center, supports campus organizations such as UGA's AIDS Walk/Run Athens, and organizes talks on issues such as recycling and non-profit management.
A call for applications goes out in April for the following academic year. First years are invited to apply each September. The entire group meets one evening every other week. The officers usually hold a separate meeting during alternating weeks.
